Custom spelling words

Spelling Practice and Spell Bound already play from a built-in list. You only add a custom list when you want this week’s words, a theme, or a different grade. The games themselves stay single-file.

Pick one path

  1. Play as-is. Download or open the HTML. It includes a built-in list. No extra file.
  2. This browser, this session. Paste a list on the Word list page and click Save on this device. Reload the game in the same browser. Nothing is uploaded. Other devices keep the built-in list.
  3. Offline class set. Download the HTML and spelling-words.js. Put both files in the same folder (USB, shared drive, or desktop). Reopen the HTML. The extra file replaces the built-in list on every device that has both files.

Line format is always word, emoji — one pair per line. Example: friend,👫

Ask a free chatbot

Paste this week’s words below. The prompt updates as you type. Copy it into any free chatbot, then paste the word, emoji lines it returns into the word list editor. Leave the box empty if you want the chatbot to invent a themed list instead. Do not paste student names. The game never talks to a chatbot.

No words yet — the prompt will ask for a themed list.

Session on this computer
  1. Paste your words into Your words (or leave it empty for a themed list), copy the prompt, and run it in a free chatbot.
  2. Open Word list and replace the box with your lines.
  3. Click Save on this device.
  4. Reload Spelling Practice or Spell Bound in this same browser.
Downloaded game for the whole class
  1. From the catalog, click Download HTML for Spelling Practice or Spell Bound.
  2. On Word list, paste your lines and click Download spelling-words.js.
  3. Put spelling-words.js in the same folder as the HTML file — not a folder above it.
  4. Open the HTML. If the extra file is missing, the built-in list still plays.
Which games read this list?

Only Spelling Practice and Spell Bound. Other games are already complete single files and do not use a word list.

Will a chatbot see my class?

Not through this site. We do not call any chatbot. If you use one, paste only the prompt and the word list — never student names, scores, or writing samples.
