For teachers
One file. A whole class. No accounts.
Project it, pass it around, or put it on a shared drive. Students never sign in.
Offline in five minutes
- Open the game catalog and click Download HTML. The file includes a built-in word list. To use your own words, put spelling-words.js in the same folder as the HTML file (not a folder above it), then reopen the HTML.
- Save the file where students can reach it: Google Drive, a USB stick, or the desktop.
- On each device, open the file in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari.
- Turn the Wi-Fi off if you want to prove it. The game still runs.
- For the spelling game, click Hear word so the browser can use speech audio.
Classroom notes
Speech audio uses the voices already on the device. If a Chromebook has no voice pack, students can still use the sentence hint and type the word.
Headphones help in a busy room. The game also plays a short correct/incorrect tone through Web Audio — keep volume modest.
You may copy, modify, and redistribute every game under the MIT License. Changing the word list is expected — both games share one list.
Questions teachers actually ask
Do students need an account?
No. There is no login anywhere on the site.
Does this work on Chromebooks?
Yes. Download the HTML file and open it in Chrome. After that it does not need the network.
Is there student data?
No. See the privacy page. Scores stay in the current browser tab.
How do we change the spelling words?
Open Word list. Add lines like friend,👫. Save on this device updates this browser only. Download spelling-words.js and replace games/spelling-words.js if you want the whole class (or the live site) to use the new list.
Can I host this at school?
Yes. Copy the files onto any static server, or skip the catalog and only share the game HTML.
